Forecast updated 2nd March, Spring and into Summer
After the coldest Winter for 30 years, will Spring follow a similar theme?
March is expected to be another colder than average month, so the pattern continues… The air pressure anomaly chart you see below shows the reason why, we’re still expected to see higher than average pressure to the north of the UK, this ‘northerly blocking’ is typical of what we’ve seen through much of the Winter and is a setup which will often allow regular colder incursions from the continent or the north to attack the UK. Rainfall is also expected to be below average for much of the country, but there is an indication of some wetter periods in the far south again.
April is currently forecast to be a slightly cooler, or close to average month, with rainfall expected to be above the norm across much of the country as low pressure systems take a more active role in the UK’s eather.
Into the latter part of Spring and the start of Summer, both may and June are currently expected to be close to, or slightly above average in terms of temperature. Rainfall is something we’re watching currently, May is expected to be mixed with near average values typically, but June is showing some potentially very wet weather which could lead to some flooding issues and something we will be monitoring. Please note that at this range confidence is lower so this portion of the forecast in particular is subject to potentially significant changes.
